December 2025 Gaza Update: Critical Humanitarian Crisis, Aid Efforts, and Escalating Challenge

Gaza Strip (December, 2025) – The humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip remain severe and urgent months after a fragile ceasefire came into effect, with life-threatening hardships continuing for civilians across the enclave.

Current Situation on the Ground

Despite a ceasefire that has significantly reduced large-scale combat, critical humanitarian needs persist due to ongoing access restrictions, infrastructure destruction, and extreme weather impacts:

Torrential rains and flooding have devastated displacement camps and fragile shelters, killing multiple civilians, including children, and worsening living conditions for hundreds of thousands of displaced people.

Emergency shelter materials like waterproof tents, timber, and water pumps are still insufficient or blocked from entry, leaving roughly 795,000 people in unsafe, flood-prone areas.

Aid deliveries continue to lag behind needs, prolonging the struggle for basic necessities such as food, clean water, and adequate shelter.

Health, Nutrition & Medical Challenges

Healthcare remains critically strained, as many hospitals and clinics are damaged or only partially functional, with medical supplies still insufficient despite some improvements since the ceasefire.

High rates of malnutrition among children and pregnant women continue to be reported, signaling persisting food insecurity.
Medical evacuations have been supported by international partners, yet thousands of patients still await urgent care outside the Gaza Strip.

International Response & Political Developments

The ceasefire remains fragile and contested as mediators work to implement longer-term agreements; parties continue to accuse each other of violations.

Global humanitarian organizations stress that continuous humanitarian aid is essential to prevent further deterioration, especially with seasonal cold weather increasing risks for the displaced population.
Some international partners, including the United Arab Emirates, have opened new medical facilities to help address urgent healthcare needs in Gaza.

Humanitarian leaders and UN officials have reiterated that while major hostilities have decreased, the humanitarian crisis has not ended. Immediate action is needed to:
Scale up delivery of shelter, food, medical supplies and winter essentials
Ensure safe and unhindered aid access
Support recovery for displaced families and vulnerable groups, especially children
